Events to honor New Mexico suffragists

As Women’s Equality Day approaches Aug. 26, events are planned around Northern New Mexico this month to honor New Mexicans who fought to secure women’s right to vote.

Displays at the LaFarge Branch Library in Santa Fe and the Española Public Library commemorate the struggle of suffragists and the 92nd anniversary of the 19th Amendment’s ratification. And this week, two performances are slated in Española of ¡Mujeres Presente! New Mexico Women Who Rocked the Vote.

The drama is based on the work of suffragist Adelina Otero Warren to campaign for a state constitutional amendment allowing women the right to vote in New Mexico. Members of the audience will be invited to tell stories and share photographs of their relatives who worked for the right to vote . . .
